La Alberca's unique microclimate, situated over 1000 meters above sea level within a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, creates the perfect environment for naturally drying and aging Iberico products. This exceptional setting allows Fermín to preserve traditional methods, ensuring their products remain of the highest quality.
The origins of Fermín can be traced back to the founders, Fermín Martín and his wife, Victoriana Gómez. They gathered centuries-old knowledge on raising and curing Iberico pigs, transforming what was once a survival activity into a thriving business. Today, their children, Santiago and Francisca, continue to uphold these artisanal traditions, leading a company that now employs over 100 people.
At the core of Fermín's success is their control over the entire production process. Their plants in La Alberca and Tamames are integral to maintaining the standards that have made their products famous. Additionally, Fermín operates “Finca Los Helechales,” a pioneering farm in the region for 100% genetically selected Iberico pigs. The care and attention given to their pigs result in healthy, well-tended animals, which are key to producing exclusive, top-quality Iberico products.
Fermín's commitment to quality and tradition has not gone unnoticed. In 2005, they became the first company authorized to export Iberico products to the United States, adhering to the strict legal and sanitary requirements of various countries. Their reach now extends to over 20 countries, including Japan, Canada, Singapore, and China, with dedicated distributors in Hong Kong, South Korea, Australia, Puerto Rico, and Latin America.
In a significant milestone for the company, Fermín achieved Organic Industry Certification in 2016, making them the first to export organic Iberico pork to the United States. This certification reflects their innovative spirit and dedication to meeting the highest standards of quality and sustainability.
Fermín's long standing reputation is built on their adherence to BRC and IFS standards, fostering consumer trust through rigorous quality control and transparency. For over 60 years, Fermín has been proud to produce and import the largest selection of Iberico dry-cured products on the market, continuously bringing the rich traditions of La Alberca to tables around the globe.
